Day 8: Water and stars

Walk along the river

Another walk with the group, this time to get to the waterfall.  Got to see a lot of nice water and reflections as we were close to the water, cannot stop admiring the wonderful colours and combination of clouds-reflections.  Talking about reflections, I am beginning to relate my interest in reflections, projections, and transparent materials.  I will have to consider the qualities in water and how it can be applied in my future project.

Interviews

Final round of interviews, this time with the owner of the farm, founder of the residency program and one of the science interns.  All of the interviews sessions went on well, to my surprise everyone were so ready to share their thoughts, and Lilian (Founder of Fljótstunga Art Residence) even prepared a short prose before we chat, it was very touching.

Everyone’s definition towards happiness is different, there is not much to do with colours, and nothing to do with physical possession or wealth.

Lilian from Mexico “When I think about happiness I think of the combination of, on one hand, the capacity to appreciate your life and yourself in order to feel satisfaction, and on the other hand, the knowledge of what gives you joy in the present, which comes from a deep sense of acceptance. For that you need a balance between your senses and your thoughts in the present. Being present and aware of the unconsciousness. The ability to be happy comes from struggle and within that struggle comes happiness. Being taught to be different than how you are separates you from the ability to know what makes you happy. Finding that again is, to me, essential”

Halldór from Iceland “Happiness, to me, is when I use my talent and time in a patient, constructive and caring way. And when I see that effort, which is enjoyable to me, make a positive difference for people, animals or nature. In other words: Use what you’re good at and make you happy to make other people happy.”

"Happiness first of all requires complete commitment in my view. We don't need complete satisfaction to be happy, things will never be perfect, but we can all learn to be happy in our own way, and carry that with us through the obstacles we will all encounter."
Brook from France “Happiness first of all requires complete commitment in my view. We don’t need complete satisfaction to be happy, things will never be perfect, but we can all learn to be happy in our own way, and carry that with us through the obstacles we will all encounter.”

Star Gazing

Missed the northern lights last night, saw the clear sky at night I got myself prepared to take star photos instead.  It was impeccable, saw the milky way, star-blanket and a soft northern lights!
